How to Clean Up a Scanned PDF
Fix scanned PDFs by rotating pages, deleting blanks, reordering pages, and reducing file size.
Check every page first
Scanned PDFs often include blank pages, repeated pages, shadows, sideways pages, and pages in the wrong order. Open the file and write down the problems before editing. This small step saves time because you can decide whether you need Rotate PDF, Remove Pages, or both.
Rotate sideways pages
Phone scans and office scanners sometimes save pages sideways or upside down. Use Rotate PDF to turn all pages or only selected pages. Selected page rotation is important when one or two scanned pages are wrong but the rest of the document is already correct.
Delete blank and duplicate pages
Blank pages make a PDF look unprofessional and increase file size. If page 2 is blank or pages 4 and 5 are repeated, remove them with Remove Pages. For private documents, deleting unnecessary pages can also reduce the chance of sharing information by mistake.
Put pages in the right order
If the scan order is wrong, rebuild the sequence with Organize PDF. For example, enter 3,1,2,4 if the cover page was scanned third. After organizing, use Add Page Numbers for reports or long files that need a clear reading order.
Compress the final copy
Scanned PDFs are usually image-heavy, so they can become large. After cleaning the pages, use Compress PDF to make the file easier to email or upload. Always open the compressed result and check that text and stamps are still readable.
Review before sharing
After cleanup, scroll through the finished PDF from start to end. Check names, dates, signatures, page numbers, and any stamps or seals. Scanned documents are often used for important tasks, so a two-minute review can prevent a rejected upload or a confusing email reply.
